Krishnapuram Palace

The Krishnapuram Palace is located 47 km away from Alappuzha in Kerala. It is built in the 18th century by Marthanda Varma. Krishnapuram Palace is a perfect place to look for the unique Keralan architecture and you can simply spend hours appreciating the famous mural panels which are located in the palace itself. The mural wall paintings are based on the Hindu Mythology. The most famous of the Mural paintings is the 49 sq meters Gajendra Moksham which is based on the mythological theme showcasing an elephant revering Lord Vishnu. The mural was placed at the entrance of the Krishnapuram Palace from the pond so that the kings could worship the deity after their bath. The Krishnapuram Palace was once the residence of the rulers of Kayamkulam kingdom. This Palace is a two-storied building with narrow corridors, saddled roofs and dormer windows. Today, the Krishnapuram Palace is a protected monument under the supervision of Archaeology department who is trying to develop it as a great historical building. Take a tour to the Krishnapuram Palace and you will get drenched in the rich historical charm of the region. Other striking features of the Krishnapuram Palace, Kerala include the beautifully landscaped garden with a variety of exotic flowers and the Buddha Mandapam. A recently recovered statue of the Buddha is housed in this Buddha Mandapam. The Krishnapuram Palace also has a museum of antique bronze sculptures and paintings. Thus travel to this beautiful exotic Krishnapuram Palace in order to get a superb holiday retreat.
